Tonight is the finale on Top Design. I'm rooting for Preston. He's a quiet genius who consistently delivers divine interiors. He studied in Australia for a year, among various other design edu, and it shows. Some of the best design leading off the 21st Century is coming out of Australia. Here's a glimpse of his living room:

The wall color reminds me of Elephant's Breath by Farrow & Ball, which I just used on a victorian in San Francisco. It has me daydreaming about an accent wall behind my bed.

Here's a non sequitur…isn't Todd Oldham the sweetest person!

i thought preston was great, too. but nathan’s designs were so fun and out there, I was glad he won. preston will do just fine; his taste has very wide appeal.
and yes, todd is the sweetest. 🙂

Hi Leslie! Nathan is very talented. Especially when it comes to his original creations. I noticed that in the final challenge he was the only one who had hand made touches, like the painting and sculptural chandelier in the dining room. Although I thought many of his rooms in that house just looked sloppy and ordinary. It was a bit like walking into Cost Plus where the workers have to try to figure out how to stage vignettes with bulky, rather cheap looking furniture. I did not understand that entryway with the jumble of disparate objects on the table and a floor lamp crammed alongside that somber wardrobe. And there was no connection to the style of the dining room which sits on the landing within sight of the entryway. Those chairs he used next to the “sarcophagus” were such bad choices. I could go on. Overall, it looked like Pier 1 and Bombay Company collided. On the other hand I will say that his little boy’s room was perfection.
Hey Eddie! If you’re reading this, I’m envious. You already have a great gig with Martha!

    Comment on Preston’s living room:
That mustard gold sofa with the peacock blue pillows is brilliant in that setting!

    Hi Erika,
    Thanks for visiting!
I’m glad you asked about the rug. It lead me to a new blog discovery and….the fact that this may not be Preston Lee’s design at all. See here:

Here’s an article from the same blog with other great rugs:
