I just have to share a great thrift find. Lately I've been keeping my eyes peeled for vintage stereo equipment. The kind with soul, usually encased in teak cabinets and weighing about ten times as much as the new stuff. At an auction I picked up a mid century Pioneer tape deck in its original box…!!!… for $3.
I love the way the deck is designed so that the tape cassette is reclining in its little window.
My latest find are a pair of Harmon Kardon speakers found at the Goodwill that I took a gamble on for $12…!!! It paid off. They are the big sound I've been longong for ever since I traded in my major-ly grand floor speakers some years ago for a pair of bookshelf speakers. Oh the regret. But I have been happily redeemed. Oh how that bass rumbles across the floor!
I was listening to Beirut's song Nantes yesterday. Wow, they really do have a lot of instruments. I could hear them all!
These speakers are really a piece of furniture. I love the knubby linen fabric that dresses them (is this photo too dark?):
Okay. I talked myself into it. Time to go cut a rug!

I know. I've been absent, but with an excuse! I've been working like mad trying to get all of my treasures weeded out and organized. What to keep, what to sell? It's a major undertaking. But the reward is irresistable! We are making a gigantic move! Yipee! Details on that later. In the meantime, enjoy viewing some of my Etsy offerings:

When I’m feelin’ down I listen to sad music. I love Marvin’s production of this song, I Wish It Would Rain. The sentiment is of pain and heartbreak, he’s in a deep funk and the words cry out for the weather to reflect his moody blues — “sunshine, blue skies, please go away….I wish it would rain” — but at the same time it’s a total dance song. Love those kinds of contrast.
Right away it made me think of the Dolly parton song “Steady As the Rain”. Same thing, sad lyrics — “Raindrops seem to harmonize, with teardrops falling from my eyes, and my tears keep falling down, as steady as the rain” — but it’s a jaunty country fling. Spin yer partner ’round and ’round!
The first two are best when cranked up loud in your living room so you can really cut a rug.
And the best freakin’ rain song evah! Right here:Thinking of you mate, xo.
