We've had beaucoup de rain this winter which makes for great hikes in the moist and magical landscape. The moss we discovered in the Santa Cruz mountains covering Los Gatos Creek bridge (19th century) and the mushrooms were in our own backyard — Nisene Marks State Park:

    Bonjour Sylvie! Your post is very timely, as my husband is out today mushroom hunting, for the first time, in the Santa Cruz Mountains with co-workers. Tell me, is your mushroom gathering a culinary treasure hunt, or is it more of an aesthetic thing? There is so much beauty in them, and your photos are just gorgeous.

    Good question. I haven’t done the research, so all of them are inedible at this point. That’s not the definitive answer though.
