  • I'm rushing to get this post in! There are only three hours left in the month, and luckily it's a leap year or I wouldn't have made it! I started my blog, a friendly place for me to visit, ten years ago: February 2006. More on this later. Merci.

  • The chimes of freedom flashing,
flashing for the warriors whose strength is not to fight,
flashing for the refugees on the unarmed road of flight…

for the aching whose wounds cannot be nursed
for the countless confused, accused, misused, strung-out ones and worse,
and for every hung-up person in the whole wide universe,
we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing…

Check out who else was in the line-up for the festival. Staggering.

  • How did this happen? During the warmer months I did a lot of treasure hunting and rescuing of lovely vintage goods. My zeal was such that I'd collect all daylong with wild abandon, return home to the barn and dump everything off and then go back out, into the great wilderness of unfound treasures. The piles grew, and grew, unbeknownst to me, at an alarming rate. I was like a squirrel stashing it all away. Now that the weather has changed and I find myself homebound I'm realizing the magnitude of the monster I've created.

    My genius office.

And that's just three rooms! I can however find quiet respite in selective viewing. Meaning, if I simply look at smaller vignettes within the space I can find some peaceful moments. For example, in my office I can single out this view:

    Tunnel-vision, view above my desk.

    The dishes are in order.

As long as the kitchen functions and I can still cook a meal then it can't be that bad. Right? Although we will have to eat on our laps for now. The dining table hasn't looked like this for months! …

Dismaland pulls back the curtain of denial — ie: nonstop happy faces, in the face of a planet in crisis — and reveals, in Banksy's unflinching art-meets-activism style, our very real dark side. From the pond of remote-controlled boats packed with migrants to an abattoir carousel featuring horse meat, this is not your grandma's amusement park.

"This event contains adult themes, distressing imagery, extended use of strobe lighting, smoke effects and swearing. The following items are strictly prohibited: knives, spraycans, illegal drugs, and lawyers from the Walt Disney corporation."

Dubbed an "escape from mindless escapism", the seaside park located in Banksy's hometown of Bristol features new works by him, as well as hundreds of pieces by 58 artists from around the globe.

One of my favorite features, before you even enter the park, you've "entered". The "security" at the door are dressed in Alice-In-Wonderland style costumes, with oversized police caps and cardboard reinforcements:
