Paletteforgreydays

I have been welcoming autumn. Absolutely revelling in it. I had planned to get myself into an autumn palette mode around the shop and house, donning all with fabrics and paints in warm, earthy tones. But the first grey day that came made me go into the season kicking and screaming. I went to my supply of paints in the garage and suddenly I was standing there with turquoise, lime, and white! "Stand back! I’m not ready to put sweaters on all of you!" So, despite my visions of rust, camel, cocoa, and the like, the furniture is coming out as if dressed in day-glo bikinis…

I will try (not) to get into the spirit, to play by the rules (not). Who says. I could’ve titled this post The Anarchist Designer. Lime and turquoise look even better on a grey day. I DO like green eggs and ham.

What is that beautiful turquoise decal on the window? If you wrote about it I must have missed it.
… and I meant to say on Flickr that I love that horse lamp! Thanks for posting it.

Awesome! How do you paint your furniture – brush, roll, or spray?

Hi Lindsey. Good question. I’m always experimenting to see what works best on which surface. The greenn metal table bases I did with a foam sponge craft brush. The blue wooden table I started out with a roller but the wood was so wonky and warped that I had to switch to a bristle brush. When you’re covering large areas a brush is usually best. A roller tends to show too much texture. But then it also depends on the type of paint you’re using; flat, gloossy, etc. It’s okay to experiment. Just have several options at hand.

Love those colors! Why do people always want to have drab shades when the weather is more gloomy and less color appears in nature during the winter months? I have never understood that! That is THE time when you need cheery, uplifing colors surrounding you the most!
